INDEPENDENCE DAY CHILDREN'S PARADE
07/04/09

Sponsored by the Crab Orchard Chapter-Daughters of the American Revolution, children of Cumberland County will decorate their wagons, bikes, power wheels, and themselves and parade down Main Street beginning at the Palace Theatre and ending at the Crossville Depot. This parade begins at 10:00 a.m and it is part of the July 4th Celebration held each year on Main Street on the Courthouse Lawn. To become involved, call Martha Ballard at 931-707-0638.

2009 BLUEGRASS & BARBEQUE

 The Cumberland County Fair Association presents the 2009 Bluegrass & Barbeque at the Community Complex. Admission is $5 and kids under 6 are free. The event will include special guests, a craft fair, jam tents, BBQ contest, and 4-H Youth Division contests. Cash prizes will be given in each contest. The Cumberland County Chess Club will host their Clinton H. Pearson, Jr. Memorial Sumemr Open Chess Tournament at the Cumberland County Community Complex. Registration will be held from 7:30 – 8:30 AM with an entry fee of $10.00 if mailed by July 6, 2009 or $15.00 at the door. The tournament will consist of four swiss-system rounds. There will be numerous cash prizes given away during this event. USCF membership dues are required and TCA membership dues are required for Tennessee residents. 1ST ANNUAL DON HELMS STEEL GUITAR FESTIVAL & GOLF TOURNAMENT

The Big South Fork Opry is pleased to announce the 1st Annual Don Helms Steel Guitar Festival & Golf Tournament. The events will kick off with the golf tournament on Friday, July 17th at Lake Tansi Golf Course. All music events will be held at the Palace Theatre in Downtown Crossville. A tribute to Steel Guitar legend, John Hughey, will begin at 7:00 PM on Friday evening. The tribute will feature music from Conway Twitty & Vince Gill. At 1:00 PM on Saturday, July 18th, the Palace Theatre will hold the first Don Helms Steel Guitar Jam that will include ten of the top steel guitar players in the world. Saturday, July 18th at 7:00 PM will be the tribute show honoring Don Helms. Many guests from Nashville will be at all the events. Crossville Truck and Tractor Pullers Association along with Middle Tennessee Pullers Association will be presenting the Tennessee State Championship Truck and Tractor Pullers at the Cumberland County Community Complex. Antique Tractors will start pulling at 2:00 PM and then at 7:00 PM, the V-8 Hot Rod Tractors, Dual Engine and Blower Tractors, Super Stock, Pro Stock, and Super Street 4x4 Trucks, and Smoker Tractors will hit the dirt. CUMBERLAND HOMESTEADS 75th ANNIVERSARY
07/25/09
75th Anniversary Celebration for the Cumberland Homesteads Community will be held at the Homesteads Tower Museum at 11:00 AM.  A reenactment of First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt's 1934 visit to the community will be one of the highlights of the event.  The actress playing the part of Mrs. Roosevelt will be speaking from the back of a vintage lumber truck along with other guest speakers.  Depression-era food and music will be part of the event, as well as book signings by local authors.  The Homesteads Tower Museum will have Open House.  The public is invited and encouraged to dress in vintage Depression-era clothing and bring chairs.  Admission and parking is free at Homesteads Elementary School.  Location: Junction of US 127S and SR 68, 4 miles South of Crossville.
